Modern MOTORCYCLES has six gears, but no visual means to know which gear is on.
MOTOGEAR displays the the current gear by a big 2 " seven segment display.
It uses three micro switch as input and on big, bright 7-segment digit as a display.
The control logic is done by a Microchip PIC16F84 flash micro controller.

Mechanical construction

Display and micro controller is put on two back to back one side printed circuits to minimize the physical dimensions.
One double sided circuit board will also do, but it is more expensive for hobby builders.
These two boards are connected together with four 3/8" * 0.5" screws and some wires
which are connected to gear lever.
One switch indicates free prosition, second lever down and third lever up.
