2. A PIC Assembler book from Scott Edwards  zip-file
3. Lastest version of PIP02 programmer software

4. Free PROTEL PCB-CAD software for DOS, still very usable Protel Easytrax.zip
Some people use it as a schematic capture program too.

5. Example files to book from David Beson Pic Up The Pace

7. A corrected version of David Tait PIC16C54 programmer CAD-layout in  ( PROTEL PCB 2.8) and  POSTSCRIPT-file. A programming software for D.Tait PIC16C54 programmer is  here
It has been difficult to obtain 74HC299 chip for this design. No I keep them in stock. See my pricelist (a finnish  pic price list). See additional documentation from Henry Palonen home page
Also BAR28 diode has been unknown to many people. Technical data you find  here http://www.st.com/stonline/books/all/3287.htm in PDF-format or in html-format. Suitable replacement is Schottky 1N5819 ( €1). I keep then in my stock.  I also program PIC16C54, if you are too lazy to build a programmer for one time job. Send  me  a hex-file.

Questions about TAIT Parallel PIC Programmer

Question #1
I build the Tait Parallel Programer with your design  of PCB, and i can't make it works!!. When type
pp54.exe then show me in the screen " Hardware not Found ". I use an short cable (20cm), and a large cable (100cm), also config the setting of the LPT1 in ECP, SPP, but no have a solution.
There is something i can't understand,  the configuration of the switch , i make a lot of bridges betwen the pins, and differents combinations, surely this is my error. I thank you any information you can send me.

Greetings from Argentina, P.Adrian

Answer  #1
Ask help from local electronics people or radioamateurs.
The remote debugging is not easy
SPP = Stardard Parallell Port is enough for this design .
Try these first
- measure power supply for each IC,  5V and also 0V against 5V supply
- use debug.to test that LPT wires go to right ICs

DOS Debug program is located in  c:\windows\command\debug.exe  WIN9x
  I  = input command e.g.   I 37A
O = output , 378 LPT address in HEX , FF all pins on
IN DOS box write
 debug.exe
-
O 378  FF  ( set all LPT  pins on on LPT1)
  O 378  00  ( set all LPT  pins off on LPT1)
  O 378  1  ( set   pin 2  on, others off  on LPT1)
Measure pins level in the board according your test.
If this do not help read parallel port information from internet or buy a book: Parallel Book Compleate, Jan Axelsson

... email goes to Argentina... still waiting...now the answer is coming...
Thanks a lot for your help!!!
The programer is now working perfectly. The problem was a error in the
construccion of PCB where the pin 1 of the DB25 are inverted to the pin
                         13.Can you believe it!!!
An another mistake i make was replace the R6 show in the Schematics i have
(12R) for 12K, using this value i can read, but i can't write, when use
                         12ohm works perfectly.

                         Thank
for your time!! Saludos!! Adrian Pulido <pladryan@ecolan.com>
